This is a unique opportunity for an experienced Roadway Project Manager to provide technical expertise and oversight.  Our ideal candidate has excellent technical bridge skills.  The position is well suited to an engineer that enjoys being the task leader on bridge projects, serving as a mentor for junior staff development, and implementing our design quality control process.  Our ideal candidate is self-motivated, takes pride in their work, and is eager to learn new skills and grow our presence in Ohio and Kentucky.

Compass works as a consultant for transportation projects primarily with public clients and local governments throughout Ohio and Kentucky. Job Description:

You will serve as a Project Manager and as an important technical resource in the firm’s roadway practice. The position is well-balanced between business development, project management, and technical responsibilities. Compass has a solid backlog of existing roadway projects, making this a low-pressure opportunity to become an integral part of our growing roadway group.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Serve as Project Manager and/or a Roadway Task Manager for projects

  • Be responsible for project scope, budget, and schedule conformance

  • Ensure quality by implementing Compass’s quality control procedures

  • Develop and implement standard practices and procedures for roadway projects

  • Identify clients/projects within your region and lead business development initiatives

  • Lead proposal development and client development meetings

  • Develop project scopes and fees

  • Mentor new staff as the firm grows

  • Consult on hiring of future staff members

  • Project Management and Business Development experience is a plus. However, less experienced candidates with excellent leadership potential will also be strongly considered. If you have been the “person behind the person” and are ready to lead, we encourage you to apply.


What You Bring:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Civil Engineering

  2. Licensed Professional Engineer in Ohio, or ability to obtain by reciprocity

  3. 8 to 20+ years of transportation industry experience

  4. Experience leading roadway projects as project manager and/or task manager

  5. High-Quality experience with roadway geometrics and drainage design

  6. Experience preparing reports, plan packages, and proposals

  7. Proven leadership abilities

  8. Willingness to serve as primary point of contact and the face of the firm in your region

  9. Excellent communication skills

  10. Cooperative, team-oriented spirit

  11. Valid driver’s license with an insurable driving record. Must have a satisfactory background test.
