This is a unique opportunity for an experienced Bridge Project Manager to oversee and execute existing projects and lead new client pursuits.  Our ideal candidate has excellent technical bridge skills, project management skills, and the ability to identify and lead pursuits. We currently have offices in Columbus, Canton, and Ft. Mitchell and are beginning to explore Lexington and Louisville as the location of our 4th office.  The person we hire to fill this position could also serve as the office lead if the interest is there and they live in close proximity to the Lexington or Louisville areas. This position is well-suited for an experienced engineer who has served as a Project Manager and is ready to step into a leadership position.

Job Description: 

This position will serve as a Project Manager and as an important technical resource in the firm’s bridge practice. The position is well-balanced between business development, project management, and technical responsibilities. Based on the firm’s growth trajectory, this position will offer outstanding career development, potentially including the opportunity to become the lead of a fourth office of Compass and being a primary point of contact with clients within your region. Compass has a solid backlog of existing bridge projects and pre-existing client relationships, maximizing the likelihood of your success in this role. You will serve as the head of the bridge practice in Kentucky by identifying potential projects to pursue, helping prepare project proposals, leading bridge tasks, implementing quality control, and hiring and mentoring junior staff.  

  

Responsibilities will include: 

  • Serve as Project Manager and/or Bridge Task Manager for projects 

  • Be responsible for project scope, budget, and schedule conformance 

  • Ensure quality by implementing Compass’s quality control procedures 

  • Develop and implement standard practices and procedures for bridge projects 

  • Identify clients/projects within your region and lead business development initiatives 

  • Lead proposal development and client development meetings 

  • Develop project scopes and fees 

  • Mentor new staff as the firm grows 

  • Consult on hiring of future staff members 

  

Significant Project Management and Business Development experience in a client-facing role is a plus. However, less experienced candidates with excellent leadership potential will also be strongly considered. What You Bring: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Civil Engineering 

  • Licensed Professional Engineer in Kentucky (Ohio PE is a plus) 

  • 15+ years of transportation industry experience, with at least 5 years in a project management role 

  • Willingness to serve as primary point of contact and the face of the firm in your region 

  • Experience as Project Manager on KYTC projects desired 

  • Track record of successful proposal development and project pursuit wins 

  • Proven ability to serve as prime consultant or lead consultant on transportation projects 

  • Experience managing project P&L, including scope development, fee negotiation, and budget management 

  • Demonstrated experience leading client meetings, presenting, and coordinating with project owners 

  • Proven hands-on experience in all aspects of bridge design projects 

  • Ability to work independently preparing engineering reports, calculations, and overseeing plan development 

  • Experience preparing reports, plan packages, and proposals 

  • Experience mentoring and directing the work of junior engineers and designers 

  • Proven leadership abilities 

  • Excellent communication skills 

  • Cooperative, team-oriented spirit 

  • Familiarity with engineering software packages such as: OpenBridge Designer, MDX, AASHTOWare BrR, LPile, and more. 

  • Valid driver’s license with an insurable driving record. Must have a satisfactory background test.
